Frankenstein

When I cracked open this book (or rather downloaded it from the iBookstore) I expected a classic scary tale. It turns out, however, that the original story actually has little to do with general horror and instead contains an interesting commentary on human nature. Shelley also uses the monster that Frankenstein births to explore the relationship between creature and creator.

I enjoyed reading the book, although it gets a little slow in places. My main point of contention is the inexplicable change of heart that causes Frankenstein to despise his creation in the first moment of its life. A monster made of old body parts would obviously disturb many people, but the complete and total revulsion—even on a moral level—that everyone experiences around the monster needed more development.

On another note, I found iBooks a quite usable way to read books, but still not as attractive as the real thing. Of course part of that could be due to the small size of an iPod screen.
